Gracie's Ouchie

It's been an eventful week.  On Monday we noticed Gracie (our 4 year old mini schnauzer) was favoring her front left paw.  By Monday evening we decided she probably needed to go to the vet.  Because we were a walk-in, I ended up waiting almost an hour and a half before the vet checked her out.  It was decided that her nail was the culprit (the vet surmised that the nail came loose from the nail bed (no idea how that happened) and needed to be clipped off.  This was around 6:45 and they close at 7.  So we had to pay an after hours fee and left her there for an hour so they could sedate her, numb the paw, and cut off the nail.  She handled it like a champ, but hello $300+ we were not planning on spending.  Along with the annoying bill, the medicine we were given (one pain med, one antibiotic) both have the potential to make Gracie sick and since she has such a sensitive stomach anyway, she's been vomiting once a day (at least she tells me when she has to do it so I can get her outside or to a spot that is easy to clean up).  Also, the "bag" they gave us to put on her paw when going outside for the first couple of days?  Ha!  We used a bootie instead, but Gracie is a true princess and will not tolerate anything on her feet...so those two days were interesting to say the least.  (Not interesting good, interesting bad.)  She seems to be doing much better now, especially since we are not making her wear the cone anymore.  :-) 

Our dogs are part of our family and we're committed to taking care of them, no matter the cost.  I feel like too often pets are tossed aside once they become inconvenient.  Our dogs have been inconvenient since the day we rescued them (haha), but they are worth it.  Every penny.  Every late night.  Every "cleaning up vomit, pee, poop, you name it" moment.  Every tore up my favorite "fill in the blank" moment.  Yeah, sometimes it's hard, but we love them anyway.  I am so happy that Audrey gets to grow up around two of the best dogs in the world.  She'll love having these crazy fur kids in her life, just like her mommy and daddy do.
